It is impossible to remove larger vascular masses with only laser treatments. In such cases, our clinic offers its patients sclerotherapy, which is the most common and effective way to treat varicose veins with injections. In some situations, a combination of sclerotherapy and laser therapy is the best solution for the patient.
A major advantage of sclerotherapy compared to other treatments is that foam sclerotherapy can be used for most types of varicose veins and spider veins.
WHEN IS SCLEROTHERAPY INDICATED?
• Early-stage varicose veins
• Presence of spider angiomas
• Spider veins
ADVANTAGES OF SCLEROTHERAPY
• Safety
• Effectiveness
• The sutures are almost invisible after sclerotherapy treatments
• The procedure is painless and does not require anaesthesia
• No need for inpatient care
• The duration of the procedure is up to 30 minutes
• Short recovery (1 day)
A sclerotherapy treatment can be carried out on an outpatient basis, without any everyday life limitations.
HOW SCLEROTHERAPY IS PERFORMED?
At the Era Esthetic clinic, the sclerotherapy procedure is carried out by a surgeon, who monitors it using ultrasound. A drug (Aethoxysklerol, made in Germany) is injected into the damaged vein; its purpose is to embolize, i.e. close the vein vessels, with the vascular walls sticking to each other; as a result, the blood vessel stops functioning, becomes absorbed and eventually vanishes. Compression stockings must be put on immediately after the injection, and worn continuously for 48 hours.
HOW MANY SCLEROTHERAPY SESSIONS ARE NECESSARY?
It depends on the problem being treated. For example, a small blood vessel can be closed in one procedure. However, if the patient has hypodermic varicose development and spider veins, an entire course of procedures would be required: the large blood vessel is closed, then after 2-3 weeks the coagulum is removed to remove additional pigmentation etc. After that, aesthetic issues are also addressed. If the sclerotherapy treatments fail to close smaller spider veins, they can be can closed using laser therapy (vascular laser using VBeam Perfecta dye).
FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO ACHIEVE OPTIMUM RESULTS AFTER SCLEROTHERAPY
– walk for at least one hour a day; daily walks of at least 30 minutes a day are further recommended;
– avoid strenuous exercise and air travel for two weeks after the procedure;
– no using saunas, baths or hot tubs for two months after the procedure;
– wear compression stockings for at least one month after the procedure.

During your preliminary visit, our surgeon will perform an ultrasound of your vascular masses, and will choose the best treatment for you.
